Architectural details

Visiting tourists localities often means making brief walks around palaces and monuments of great historic and artistic interest, but how many of us on our return remember the beauty as a whole? Often our eyes, after a general glance linger on a particular detail without knowing why it attracts us so.
It is as if our brain is overawed in front of the magnificence of the whole thing, while it seems to enter into a sort of mental confidence with one of the details. For example looking at the outside of the Campanile di Giotto, the inquisitive eye lingers on the marble decorations or the statues of Saints placed half way up the lower part.
Often we take home the memory of a wonderful journey across small architectural details collected in our mind, things which have struck our fancy without us realising why.
