Ungania arrived to Borgo San Lorenzo in February 1900, he was
coming from Bibbiena in Casentino, he was 48 years old and started
a law firm in Borgo San Lorenzo. He suddenly loved this generous land,
he felt home, and understood this was the place where he wanted to
live forever. Even if he was a good lawyer his real passion was photography.
He realized Mugello was unique in its kind and being not new to
the pioneering photography of those times, he started taking pictures
in 1900 and ended in 1920 at his death. In this period he succeeded in
taking pictures of literally every corner of Mugello with a predilection
for its architectural beauties. Unfortunately we cannot publish all
his work together as it is immense, but little by little we want
to show, through his eyes, a great portion of Mugello and so of the
Tuscany as it was at the beginning of last century.
We would like to thank Aldo Giovannini, who collected and organized
with passsion and love the pictures of Mister Giuseppe Ungania.
