Corniol-tree, Cornus mas

Family of cornaceae

It is a small tree, or more often a shrub, and it is a common plant of the Apennines easy to find it along paths or streams. It blossoms in Spring with yellow small flowers. In Fall its fruits ripe and they have an oval shape and red colour like a cherry and they are called "corniole". Even a jewel has the same name of these fruits.

It is possible to prepare delicious slightly sour jams with "corniole", and they can be put in alcohol or in brine like olives. In France these fruits are used to season tasty courses of meats, for example the game.
