Juniper, Juniperus communis

Family of cipressaceae

This plant shows up against the vegetation of the Apennines as they were dark brush stroke; this is a colonising plant of uncultivated soils and the most useful part of this plant, which has prickly needles, is represented by its dark blue berries, which are used to aromatize courses with game or in the preparation of liqueurs.

Use
The berries have tonic and digestive effects. Pope Gregorio XIII believed they were a good remedy for every season, and people thought about their beneficial effects against bladder- stones and against flatulence.
