Oregano, Origanum vulgare

Family of labiateae

This is an aromatic herb which grows along the sunny and dry escarpments and flowers during the month of July. Only the flowered tops and the dried leaves are used. It can aromatize pizza, salads with tomato, potato and aubergine. Its flavour is different compare to the one of oregano-marjoram, but it is pleasant.

Use
A type of tea made with this plant has tonic properties, furthermore it is relaxing and antiseptic so that it is used against cough and catarrh provoked by smoking. A very hot poultice is used to cure stiff neck and rheumatic complaints.
