Petacciola, Plantago major

Family of plantaginaceae

This plant is normally found on meadows and along paths and it seems to have the particular characteristic to grow strongly where soils are really trodden on.

Use
Anciently it was used for its astringent and healing effects; it is important to wash it very well in hot water and then use it to cure stings or other skin sores, the water of decoction is useful for gargles. The most tender leaves can be used to prepare salads, but they fit very well in mixed soups because they are quite hard.
