Herbs and flowers

Blackberry bush, Rubus fruticosus

Family of rosaceae

Even in July it is possible to pick up blackberries of the variety called "caesius", even if its flavour does not have the same quality of the one of blackberries picked up in September. This is one of the best wild fruits. It normally grows on big bushes (especially on dry grounds) near deserted farms and along country roads. It blossoms from May till July and it is possible to pick up the delicious fruits from the second half of August until the second half of September.

The fruit can be consumed fresh with lemon and sugar and it can also be frozen. It is rich of vitamin "A" and "C" and it can be used to prepare one of the most delicious jams in the world, because it is made with a genuine fruit without any chemical manipulation. It is possible to prepare a syrup which represents a good remedy against the inflammation of mouth.
