Strigoli, Silene vulgaris

Family of cariofillaceae

This plant is very common in meadows and it blossoms with small bunches of sleigh-bells which have white petals. The capsule contains seeds and children used to employ it as a pipe.

The fresh shoots are used to prepare mixed salads, or they can be boiled, or they can be an ingredient of an omelette. Locally it is called "grasso agnellino" which means fat lamb.
