idea we are suggestions is that of visiting the Monte Amiata area by bicycle
in six days and one half-day. Obviously the same itinerary can be covered
by motorcycle or car perhaps forgoing some unpaved road, but experiencing
the same sensations. Let’s divide the journey by days.
First day
From Siena Via Asciano, take a train to the little station of Torrenieri.
From there follow the Via Cassia up to San Quirico d’Orcia and afer
9 km to Bagno Vignoni.
Second day
From the enormous 14th century pool of Bagno Vignoni the road quickly
rises to the abandoned village of Vignoni and continues up to the Romitorio.
Upon arriving at the Medieval Castle of Ripa d’Orcia there is a
lovely panorama that drops down to the Orcia River after which the road
leads to the village of Rocca d’Orcia with its famous octagonal
well carved from a single block of stone. The next stop is Castiglione
d’Orcia, followed by Rimbecca a beautiful Medieval structure with
two towers and a Romanesque church.
Third day
