The
Calvana is a long chalky ridge which slopes down for over 20 km from the
Apennines to the Prato plain. This positioning turns its meadows into
an escape valve for the citizens of Prato, who re-climb its slopes for
a great variety of reasons, be it relaxation or work. In fact even today,
here there is a flourishing industry of sheep, beef and horse raising,
and it is therefore extremely easy to find animals reared in their wild
state.
