Caprona
can also be reached by mountain-bike from Pisa by taking the road for
Ghezzano, Mezzana, and Caprona (approximately 12km). The village is one
of many scattered along the base of the series of low mountains that go
by the name of the Monti Pisani, of which the highest is Monte Serra (917m).
The whole chain rises rapidly from the Pisan plain created by the Arno
and represents a natural barrier separating Pisa and Lucca. And it is
for this reason, as Dante affirms in The Divine Comedy, that the Pisans
can't see or stand people from Lucca.
