The first issue appeared on July 19, 1859. In its almost one hundred and fifty-year existence, a number of important writers have contributed to the paper, including Carducci, De Amicis, and Alexandre Dumas (who followed the March of the Thousand).
The paper has changed ownership a number of times over the years and has evolved into a national daily newspaper.
