Going
towards Calci takes you into the very green Zambra valley and you quickly
reach the Certosa di Calci, one of the finest religious edifices in Tuscany.
Considered the palace of seclusion, the Carthusian monastery represents
one of the greatest examples of baroque in Tuscany. If you go inside,
you are struck by the contrast between the green lawn and the spectacular
facade decorated with statues. Of these, "hope" and "faith"
recall the main function of the building, hope and faith being the two
fundamental 'rules' of hermetic life.
