Descend
the Lucca side of the hill, taking an asphalt road (in not very good condition)
which in the wood is full of bends, and after 7.4 km you come to S. Andrea
di Compito. From here you can quickly get to Lucca on the asphalt road.
This city is definitely worth a visit and you should not miss the opportunity
to do the circle of the walls (this can also be done by mountain-bike)
which are a masterpiece of the Renaissance. The wide avenue which runs
along the curtain wall has been closed to cars in recent years and turned
into a cycle track. The avenues lined with plane, linden, and elm trees,
and the gardens on the old ramparts have turned the trip round the walls
into one of the most interesting historic routes in Tuscany.
