The Tuscan landscape usually conjures up the well-known images of vineyards,
olive groves, and rolling hills. However, the Tuscan countryside is surprisingly
diverse. There are many environments and lifestyles contributing to the
cultural richness of the region. Tuscany also provides a wide cultural
itinerary in which to explore human habitation and topography.
Program & Prices
This program begins in Lucca or Florence and combines
language instruction with insightful itineraries that lead to the discovery
of new people and new places, and allows for individual interpretation
of this unique culture.
The One-Week Program
- Sunday: Arrival in Lucca or Florence and accommodation in hotel or
with Italian family
- Monday: Morning language lesson; afternoon orientation in the historical
center of Lucca or Florence ("From Medieval to Modern Times")
- Tuesday: Morning language lesson; excursion to Carrara marble quarries
- Wednesday: Morning language lesson; afternoon explore hill landscapes;
the vine and the olive with tour of a farm with wine and oil tasting
- Thursday: Morning language lesson; afternoon departure for Capraia,
accommodation in hotel; afternoon guided tour of town, Fortezza S. Giorgio,
Punta Bellavista; dinner with menu of island specialties
- Friday: Guided tour of the island eco-system and the Mediterranean
bush; man and the island, reading history through its traces, ancient
farming, terracing; studies of the landscape from Monte La Penna; how
an archipelago is born; dinner with menu of local specialties
- Saturday: Sea excursion touring the island, erosion phenomena, marine
grottoes, and bird nesting; box lunch; return to port and departure
for Livorno (Leghorn); overnight in Lucca or Florence
- Sunday: departure
