in 1930 in Baino, a small Appenine village on the border
between Tuscany and Romagna, Brandimarte Guscelli arrived
in Florence at the beginning of the 50s and opened a shop
in San Frediano. He quickly established himself as the
King of Silver, because he had the talent to transform
it into objects of a fine and rare beauty. Particularly
well-known is his ornamental work based on natural forms
- shoots and festoons, grapes and spikes - , with which
he decorated cups, trays, and various kinds of tableware.
Brandimarte died in 1994, but his art has been kept alive
by his faithful apprentices at the vast workshop in Via
Bartolini.
The writer of this text had the privilege to be his guest
some years ago at the "Il Milione" estate on
the hill of Giogoli, not far from the Certosa. There remains
an abiding and wonderful memory of a generous host and
artistic genius, constantly surrounded by a cheerful group
of friends - of which he was the King.
