o
understand the history of this antiques gallery, one needs to know
the story of Ugo Camiciotti, its genial elderly owner. He moved
to Paris when he was very young, where he gained the trust of the
great tailor Pierre Balmain, for whom he was a kind of alter ego
for almost twenty years. But Ugo's real passion was nineteenth-century
French furniture - embellished with gold and other decoration, and
with an elegant abundance of forms.
He returned to Florence in 1966 intent on opening his own antiques
gallery, but the flood delayed matters for a year. But since 1967,
the Galleria Camiciotti has been offering Florentines and non-Florentines
alike splendid furniture and highly-elegant epoch furnishings (exclusively
French), tastefully chosen by an experienced connoisseur.
For years Ugo has shared his experience and business with his nephew
Stefano, a man of great artistic sensibility, whose advice is much
sought-after by the discerning (and demanding) clientele of this
Florentine corner of France.
