first licence for this shop was granted in 1896, but even before then
there were stables here for the changing of the horses on the Florence-Pontassieve
route. Trading went on here between the sand-pit workers of the River
Arno, who bartered soap for other goods brought by travellers. And
so this old place gradually began to assume the form of a small agricultural
emporium.
The Magni family has been the owner of this ancient property since
1981; besides selling seeds and agricultural products, they have built
up with dedication and determination the food side of things, searching
out artisan-produced cured meats, sausage meats, and cheeses from
the finest Tuscan producers. Apart from traditional ready-to-eat Tuscan
recipes, there is also bread baked in wood-fuelled ovens, fresh pasta,
and a well-stocked cantina. |
